Gli HCA Awards 2023 hanno assegnato i premi nelle varie categorie in una cerimonia che si è tenuta il 24 febbraio. Sono premiazioni appena alla sesta edizione, e per questo non rappresentano una possibile influenza per gli Oscar, anzi spesso differiscono soprattutto nelle categorie attoriali, ma non è un dato certo. Al momento sembrano dei premi in linea con quelle che potrebbero essere le scelte dell’Academy il prossimo 12 marzo, ma è ancora tutto da vedere, dato l’equilibrio in alcune categorie. Chiaro ad esempio che i trucchi più apprezzati siano quelli di The Whale ed Elvis, così come i costumi di Elvis e Black Panther: Wakanda Forever o Naatu Naatu come canzone originale, e RRR stesso ha ricevuto diversi premi tra cui il Miglior Film d’Azione. Ma questi riconoscimenti americani premiano anche gli stunt, il Miglior Film Horror, indipendente, e tante altre categorie che non sono invece contemplate agli Oscar, e per questo si differenziano parecchio. Si conferma Everything Everywhere All at Once il film più amato negli Stati Uniti ed ha vinto premi come la Miglior Regia e il Miglior Film, mentre Gli spiriti dell’isola e The Fabelmans non ricevono alcun riconoscimento. Michelle Yeoh vince il premio per la Miglior Attrice Protagonista, al momento unica cerimonia dove ha trionfato ai danni di Cate Blanchett. Anche Top Gun: Maverick viene premiato, in particolare fa rumore la vittoria della Miglior Fotografia del film con Tom Cruise siccome è stato escluso invece in questa categoria, a sorpresa, agli Oscar.
